Concept development
Concept development is an early stage of the design process. It bridges the stage of idea generation, experience modelling and requirements gathering into iterative design development and testing.
Concept generation combines analytical and creative/synthetic activities and skill sets.
Innovation processes, whether in a company designing products or in many other endeavours, need to be rooted both in analytical skills and in more intuitive, synthetic ones.
Designers are particularly well equipped for synthesizing alternative solutions to meet human needs. The act of designing is not simply a process of combining all the research information or blending all the possible solutions.
Designers must use their own tacit knowledge and their experience of synthesising a solution from multiple sources and ideas.
