Ilaria Scarpellini

UX researcher and designer

My aim is to create small improvements which address many people, this is my strategy for contributing to human flourishing.

Ilaria Scarpellini is a UX researcher and designer, with a strong human-centered approach. In 2014 she earned a double MSc degree from the Technical University of Delft, in integrated product design and in design for interaction.

During her studies she was involved in education and research projects, and she actively participated within the Delft Institute Of Positive Design. She developed her thesis in collaboration with KLM, applying principles of psychology of motivation, emotion and behavior, for the improvement of the experience of passengers on long haul flights.

Ilaria’s vocation is to investigate people in the contexts they experience, in order to gain meaningful insights about their needs, attitudes and values and, as a consequence, develop successful design solutions, able to fully fulfill users’ expectations.

She likes to travel the world and find inspiration by meeting people and listen to their stories. In her spare time she loves to cook and organize parties for her beloved friends.

My aim is to create small improvements which address many people, this is my strategy for contributing to human flourishing.

What is happiness to you?

Happiness is when you smile to the world without a reason, it is when you love everything and everyone without a reason, and most of all, when you live without a reason. I mean that in order to fully enjoy life, it is good to accept that there is no predefined goal, life for life’s sake. I am happy when I realise that my life is my own masterpiece.

If you had a warning label, what would yours say?

Caution, risk of creativity explosion due to energy overload, trigger at your own risk.

If you could go back in time, what year would you travel to?

If I could go back in time I would definitely love to be back when the whole world was not already known, when not all the maps had been drawn and when not all the land belonged to someone already. I would have liked to be as Ines de Suarez, the first woman which left Europe and went alone to discover and conquer a new world.
